Thomas Howlett
BSc, MSc, CPDA, FGS
Project Geophysicist
Thomas holds a BSc in Petroleum Geology and an MSc in Petroleum Geoscience. After graduating in 2019, he began working in geophysical data management for the oil and gas industry during which time he earned the Certified Petroleum Data Analyst certification. He subsequently moved to Geo-4D where he carried out a range of onshore and offshore geophysical surveys for cable landfall and wind farm projects and was heavily involved in the installation of the Hornsea 2 export cable.
In 2022, Thomas joined Fugro as a Project Geophysicist focusing on the acquisition, processing and interpretation of land and nearshore based geophysical data for renewable energy and civil engineering site investigation projects.
Thomas is a fellow of the Geological Society of London and is currently working towards his chartership. He is an active member of the Professional Petroleum Data Management society and chairs a couple of groups including the “What Is Seismic” project which seeks to specify a set of guidelines to be used by the hydrocarbons industry to ensure consistency and interoperability when storing data.
In his spare time, he is an active member of Wallingford Rowing Club and competes at racing events throughout the year. He is happiest when in the outdoors, be it mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, fossil hunting or playing golf.
Experience summary:
- Core competence is the acquisition, processing and interpretation of a wide range of seismic data, including refraction, MASW and passive seismic data.
- Significant experience in the acquisition, processing and interpretation of geophysical data including magnetometer, multibeam echosounder, side-scan sonar, electrical-resistivity tomography, electromagnetic, checkshot seismic and a range of wireline geophysical surveys.
- Proficiency in cable installation and burial and drone-based geophysical surveying.
- Experience in cable landfall site investigation projects.
- Skilled in the processing and interpretation of seismic reflection data.
- Nearshore and offshore experience from working on both jack-up drill rigs and geophysical survey vessels.
